The “net social amount” has arrived on our payslips

A key administrative document that must be kept strictly throughout your career, the pay slip is essential to guarantee your rights but also to serve as proof of income. However, it is not always very understandable…

For the sake of clarity and for better information, the State has therefore undertaken to reform it for a few years. And precisely, a new modification is to be noted since July 1, 2023.

Facilitate the request for aid

Because it is a source of new constraints for employers, the transformation of the payslip is very gradual. In 2018, the number of contribution strata was thus halved by grouping them under clearer headings.

Five headings have been identified for social contributions (sickness, accidents at work and occupational diseases, retirement, family and unemployment), while the employer’s contributions have been merged into a single line.

In 2022, it is a cartridge of tax information that appeared in particular in order to inform your net taxable salary, the amount of income tax deducted at source, but also the amount of overtime or additional hours exempt from taxation.

Welcome to the “social net amount”

And on July 1, 2023, a new section is arriving, called ” montant net social “. The latter corresponds to net income including all payments (salary, bonus, overtime, allowance) and after deduction of compulsory social contributions.

The objective: to be able to visualize at a glance the sum taken into account for the calculation of certain social benefits, such as the activity bonus or the active solidarity income (RSA).

From 2024, employees and beneficiaries of this aid will be able to find all this information in their personal space on the official portal. mesdroitssociaux.gouv.fr.

At the same time, certain information deemed irrelevant has been deleted, such as the total amount of reduced contributions paid by the employer.

Employees in limbo

Despite the reforms, the payslip remains obscure for a large part of the assets.

According to a survey conducted in May by PayFit, a payroll and HR management solution, 61% of respondents said they did not fully know how to decipher their payslip, while 54% said they understood it partially and 7% did not understand anything at all.

As for the new “net social amount”, 68% of respondents do not know what it is, against 32% who have a precise idea of what it represents.

In detail, the participants denounce certain obstacles, at the top of which at 49% the titles, terms and acronyms used or the number of lines (28%), although reformed in 2022, as well as the various amounts present (25%).

Only one in five working people believes that everything is clear. However, these misunderstandings are not without consequences since they lead in particular to difficulties in receiving compensation following a work stoppage (22%), completing their tax return (16%) or taking stock of their accounts (14%).
