According to the joint statement distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and co-signed by the other two mediating countries – the US and Egypt – the talks on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip “were serious, constructive and held in a positive atmosphere”. .

The joint statement said senior officials from the three mediating countries would meet again in Cairo before the end of next week, “hoping to reach an agreement to end the war in Gaza”.

Washington, Cairo, and Doha clarify that the cease-fire plan they presented to the negotiating parties “is in line with the principles laid down by President Biden on May 31.”

The statement: “Earlier today in Doha, the United States, with the support of Egypt and Qatar, presented to both parties a compromise proposal consistent with the principles set forth by President Biden on May 31, 2024 and the Security Council resolution no. 2735. This proposal builds on areas of agreement last week and bridges remaining gaps in a way that allows for rapid implementation of the agreement,” the statement said.

“Working groups will continue technical work in the coming days on implementation details, including arrangements for implementing the agreement’s extensive humanitarian provisions, as well as details related to hostages and detainees,” he continued.
