Kolkata: The rain cover system at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the venue for the final of the 16th season of the IPL, had come under heavy criticism. When the final was extended to a reserve day, it took hours for the stadium to dry out following the second day’s match was rained out. The criticism of the fans was that even the biggest stadium of the richest cricket board in the world does not have the necessary systems. Bengal Cricket Association President Snehashish Ganguly observes that the facilities in Kolkata Eden Gardens should be prepared in Ahmedabad as well.

‘The resumption of the match was delayed due to the soaking of the practice wickets on the side. Ahmedabad is a new stadium. Hope this issue gets resolved soon. If the ground is completely covered, there will be no problems. Hopefully, all the issues will be resolved before the World Cup. If the ground can be completely covered, as in Eden Gardens, all problems will be solved. Two years ago, it cost Eden around Rs 80 lakh. Snehashish Ganguly told news agency PTI that if this is done, the field will have double security. Edenilek is the first cricket stadium in India to have a fully covered rain cover system. It was also one of the best stadiums for the IPL 2023 season.

In the 16th season of IPL, the final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans was interrupted due to rain. CSK’s reply came following the start of batting, while heavy rain and wind hampered the match, resulting in a long delay in the start of the match due to waterlogged practice pitches. The fact that the ground staff had to work hard to collect water using sponges and buckets had led to huge criticism. The match had to be shortened to 15 overs due to rain.
