I was appalled by this event, which was reported by the media and social media in painful detail this week: the killing of the girl Basmala by her teacher following a brutal blow with a stick she received on the head among her classmates in their primary school in one of the villages of Sinbillawain in Dakahlia Governorate.
Basmalah made a mistake in spelling some of the letters, so the teacher rushed her with a strike of a motivated stick in his hand. He deposited in it with great force all the bitterness of his frustrations, inability, anger at the world and his hatred for the fate that had befallen him.. So it came a fatal blow that did not wait for the poor woman for hours until she met her Lord, and no attempts to rescue her succeeded.
Can anyone denounce sympathy for this person who, at a defining moment in his life, was the murdered murderer? The people of Sinbillawain went out to mourn the little girl who left her family home one morning to go to school and was killed by her teacher, who was almost a messenger! I kept reading the pictures that broke my heart regarding the details of the incident, which cast a thick dark shadow on the world’s celebrations of Mental Health Day on the tenth of October this year.
Is there a sane person who might imagine that the teacher who smashed the skull of his little student; Because she misspelled a healthy person psychologically and mentally? He, by God, is a miserable human being afflicted with a disease of the soul and spirit, in a deep disagreement with himself, which has caused him to be dissonant with it to the point of schizophrenia. There is no dispute that he is a man whose skin has narrowed and his senses have conspired once morest him and a deep rift has formed in his soul, turning it into ruins. As for the innocent little girl, she, her family, and her colleagues have God alone who is able to heal deep wounds and heal the painful effects in their souls.
The link between the health of the soul and the health of the body is something that has become a reality in everyone’s mind, but it is a fact that still needs to be rooted in the reality of daily life. A fact that deserves that a person exerts a clear and realistic effort to obtain a full right from it. The state also has a role for which efforts should be monitored and laws should be drafted for which citizens hope for the legitimacy of obtaining what supports their mental health in addition to their physical health.
Under the slogan “Make mental health a priority for all,” the United Nations celebrated the World Mental Health Day, which remains one of the most neglected aspects of health care according to the classification of global health, especially following exposure to the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, which affected the peoples of the world without exception, which led to short and long pressures. long term to undermine the psychological and mental health of millions of people. It is estimated that the number of both anxiety and depression cases rose by more than 25% during the first year of the epidemic.
Mental health, without a doubt, should be given the importance it deserves by the state in the comprehensive health insurance law, whose final form is being drafted now.
Talking regarding mental health should not start and end with an accident that shakes the conscience of the nation, as was the case with the celebration of Mental Health Day this year, and it seemed like an iceberg, from which only its top appears, while it is hampered by a sinker in the depths of the ocean.
The state must manage a fair budget to enhance the capacity of mental health services institutions, especially those that care for young people, such as addiction treatment institutions and mental health clinics in hospitals.
The state should also strengthen efforts that encourage everyone to speak out loudly regarding the problems that cause various psychological pressures that result in psychological symptoms that threaten human safety in certain societies, such as work or family societies, and where people may be exposed to discrimination, violence or persecution.
The Egyptian society was preoccupied on social media with the issue of domestic violence, which spread under the name “Ismailia Bride” prepared by some as “a societal banality,” but I saw it as an important phenomenon despite some exaggerations in the presentation because it shed light on a real social problem that deserves attention and needs study and requires the intervention of bodies under different names In the state, effective intervention does not depend, of course, on calming thoughts and craving for “the suit of agreement” food, as the media and social media competed to list the details.
May God bless the soul of the innocent little girl, Basmala, and grant her a safe place for her to live in the days of her childhood, which he deprived of her on the ground of a mentally ill person.
We are already in an urgent need to review the mental health laws in our country and activate efforts to support its services.
Mental health is not a luxury, but a necessity that is no less important than the health of the body.
