The National Audit Office boasts of the state accounts: – Consistently good quality

– Even if we also offer criticism today, the main message is positive, said Auditor General Karl Eirik Schjøtt-Pedersen when he presented the audit of the state accounts for 2023 on Tuesday.

The state accounts are NOK 3,093 billion. In addition, the National Audit Office has reviewed 235 annual accounts for the ministries and other state enterprises.

– The government’s accounts are essentially correct. It is positive and gives confidence in public spending, is the conclusion.

Schjøtt-Pedersen says that the review of the accounts and the follow-up of previous cases show that Norwegian state administration has “generally good quality”.

– The administration also takes our findings seriously and uses them to become even better. It is positive and means that the audit is working, he says.

This time, the National Audit Office had criticism in six cases. The most important is related to framework agreements in the defense sector.

– The inspection shows that the defense sector has weak control and weak follow-up, both of the value of the framework agreements and of the duration of the agreements, said Schjøtt-Pedersen.

The audit has revealed that the sector has placed orders for NOK 734 million on 101 framework agreements that had expired on time.
