Little used as a mobility solution so far, the Namur cable car will apply new timetables and new pricing from September 1, the City of Namur said on Thursday.
A special formula intended for urban transport, financially supported by the municipal authorities, had been put in place. Concretely, Namur residents and non-Namur residents might access the infrastructure from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. during school terms, with a dedicated subscription, which annually cost them 85 or 100 euros respectively.
While the overall success of the cable car is on track (180,000 entries in 2022), the offer dedicated to urban transport has not had the expected demand, since 105 passages per day on average have been recorded at the recommended times, instead of the expected 255. In addition, 51% of these passages were made with classic tickets, once morest 49% via the specific subscription, with practically no passage in the 07:00-07:30 and 18:00-18:30 time slots.
Faced with this observation, the City of Namur will limit the offer linked to urban mobility to the time slot from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during school terms, the company managing the cable car extending, for its part, its service until 6:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. low season). From September 1, the annual “Urbi” subscription, valid only in the morning, will therefore cost 30 euros for Namur residents and 40 euros for non-Namur residents. At the same time, the “Maxi” subscription, allowing access to the cable car at any time, should go from 122 to 75 euros for Namur residents, being increased by around 15 euros for non-Namur residents, as is already the case today.
At the same time, the annual financial intervention of the City of Namur should increase from some 280,000 to 127,000 euros including VAT, the contract to be concluded for a period of four years.
