The presentation of the augmented or virtual reality headset from Apple is approaching. Trade names have obviously been registered in several countries, but not by Apple.
This time, we are getting very close to the launch of an augmented or virtual reality headset at Apple. After years of rumors around this new category of products, the brand seems to be accelerating on this project.
The journalist Mark Gurman and the Bloomberg media extensively documented month following month this new Apple product which should give the firm a foothold in the Metaverse market, facing the giant Meta. As a sign that the launch is finally approaching, the trademarks of various products have been registered in several countries, in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Oceania and the Middle East.
A Reality range for RealityOS
Three brands were spotted by Bloomberg: Reality One, Reality Pro and Reality Processor. Small particularity, it is not Apple who filed these names, but a law firm. However, this is not the first time that the firm has outsourced this type of file. Mark Gurman is therefore convinced that Apple is hiding well behind these deposits.
It must be said that they are consistent with the name RealityOS which had already emerged several months ago. During WWDC, mixed reality seemed to be everywhere.
Among these names, we understand that RealityOS would be the name of the operating system developed by Apple for its helmets. Reality One and Reality Pro sound like names Apple might give to a consumer headset and a more premium headset aimed at content creators. One can however notice the use of the number One in letter rather than in number. The brand has rather accustomed us to numbering its products with numbers.
The term Reality Processor is also strange from Apple. The headset is rumored to use either an Apple M1 or M2 chip, which makes more sense with the company’s streamlining when it comes to chip manufacturing. Perhaps the Reality Processor is an additional chip specific to the headset, but in this case we would have imagined Apple naming its chip Apple R1, or something like that.
The documents do not reveal more regarding Apple’s strategy for the coming months. We can still expect a presentation of the project for the first months of 2023, as some rumors suggest. For now, all eyes are on the presentation of the September 7 dedicated to iPhone and Apple Watch.
