The Vision Pro brand has belonged to Huawei in China since May 2019. It is impossible for Apple to market the device with such a name in the country.
Well, we didn’t see that coming. Apple probably thought that everything was going to be fine after the official presentation of the Vision Pro on June 5th. But it was without counting on the China Trademark Networkthe equivalent of the USPTO in China, which deals with the filing of the various trademarks.
Indeed, the Vision Pro brand, which Apple thought was free, was registered by Huawei in China on May 16, 2019. As things stand, Apple will not be able to release its product in the Middle Kingdom without having changed the name until November 2031.
For the moment, two outcomes are possible in such a situation. Either Apple changes the name of the Vision Pro in China and can market it, or it ignores this market and offers Huawei the possibility of selling its own Vision Pro.
