That’s what it’s regarding
A Condor Airline aircraft has been idle at Düsseldorf Airport since January 2022.
This campaign costs the airport over 37,000 euros annually.
What will now happen to the plane is unclear.
For almost two years, passengers at Düsseldorf Airport (D) have seen a stationary Airbus A320-200 at the western end of the airport. The aircraft, which bears the registration D-AICD, is decorated in the colors of the holiday airline Condor.
In 1999 the A320 was delivered to Condor Berlin, the aircraft later moved to the parent company and was expanded from 174 to 180 seats. The aircraft was leased to the Canadian airline Air Transat for a few months in 2018 and 2019 before the aircraft was finally taken out of service in January 2022. Since then it has been standing at the airport in Düsseldorf, like «Aerotelegraph» writes.
102 euros per 24 hours
In July 2022, the Condor lettering and logo were painted over and the engines were removed. So the aircraft is not needed for the time being – but what exactly will happen to the Airbus is unclear. According to Düsseldorf Airport’s fee schedule, the parking fees for the machine cost 102 euros per 24 hours. This adds up to over 37,000 euros per year.
“The former Condor aircraft D-AICD has no longer been on the Condor air operator certificate since August 2022,” an airline spokeswoman told “Aerotelegraph”. Therefore, the airline cannot provide any further information regarding the aircraft. “As part of the fleet modernization, it was phased out as planned,” the spokeswoman continued. The aircraft was probably sold, but to whom is not known. Düsseldorf Airport also does not comment on the idle Airbus and the parking fees incurred.
