They started working together in Malmö FF a little more than four years ago. Since then, Jon Dahl Tomasson and Remy Reijnierse have been together, via Blackburn Rovers FC to the Swedish men’s national team.

At the same time that Dahl Tomasson was presented as the new national team captain at the end of February, it was clear that Reijnierse would be his assistant.

– I want people around me who have opinions, like Sebastian (Larsson) and Remy. Remy always has opinions, so we will develop. I love discussions, and we will have that, says Tomasson and tells how he managed to convince Reijnierse to join the Swedish national team.

– He likes Sweden, and his wife likes Sweden even more, so it was very simple. I called her first. She said, yes, let’s go!

When Jon Dahl Tomasson first started working with Remy Reijnierse, it was reported that several others wanted the experienced 62-year-old as a mentor.

The message: Do not do interviews

How did you manage to convince him to start working with you, Jon?

– We clicked well, and we thought it felt right for us to work together.

As a player, Reijnierse was a smart midfielder. He spent his entire career at home in the Netherlands, in the clubs VV Valkenswaard, EVV Eindhoven and VVV-Venlo.

The coaching journey also began in the Netherlands. Reijnierse then worked as an assistant coach at VfB Stuttgart and Sheffield Wednesday FC.

We don’t know what he feels regarding now starting to work with the Swedish national team.

And we won’t find out either.

The message from the Swedish Football Association is that Reijnierse does not do any interviews. He thrives best in the background, letting others take the spotlight.

2020 the site reported Gas sets, who monitors Malmö FF, same thing. On several occasions they asked if they might do an interview, but the answer was always “no”. Reijnierse does not want to talk.

Those who know him from the Netherlands don’t seem surprised.

– He is quiet, Foppe de Haan, who previously worked together with Reijnierse, told the Gazette.
