Sailors who went to sea in boats for fishing. A calm sea. Silence everywhere. Soon the boats rose into the air. Some creature is attacking from the sea. A giant creature with many arms and long horns. Their large eyes, the size of dinner plates, glared at the fishermen. The incorruptible creature wrecked boats and devoured sailors with its long arms.

Such events appeared frequently in Scandinavian folklore. They called this villainous creature in sea-themed horror stories the Kraken. A sailor’s and fisherman’s nightmare. They firmly believed that this monstrous creature resided around Denmark, Greenland and Scandinavia.

Later in the early 19th century in Denmark, the corpse of a strange creature washed ashore. A creature similar to the Kraken. With this, the belief that the kraken story was true spread like wildfire. However, it was a monster squid, which was a rare creature in the ocean, that washed ashore in Denmark.

Must have eaten squid (Kunthal) from hotels. The giant squid is a larger relative of the squid we eat. His name in English is Giant Squid. Giant squids belong to the cephalopod family, which includes octopuses and common squids. Their biggest feature is that they have gained notoriety as a terror creature in many novels and movies around the world.

The 1870 classic of English literature, ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’, features the monster monster. One of the famous scenes is when the main character Captain Nemo’s submarine Nautilus is attacked by a monster squid. Novelist Schulz Verne has presented the monster squid as a monster that destroys ships weighing many tons and eats their sailors with its long arms. This has increased the mystery associated with this creature.

Famous authors such as Dan Brown and Arthur C. Clarke have also included monster scorpions in their works. The 1996 film Beast is a story regarding a city being attacked by a giant monster. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest also has a reference to the monster.

As the name suggests, monster squids are large and heavy creatures. The largest of these found today was 60 feet long and weighed 1,000 kilograms. Since they live deep in the sea, the studies regarding them are still in their infancy.

But in 2004, some scientists in Japan found giant squids and took pictures of them. They are believed to be the creatures with the largest eyes in the world. Their eyes are regarding 25 cm in diameter. These large eyes help them to detect the arrival of sperm whales, their main predator in the deep sea, and escape from them.

They have eight arms and two long arm-like structures (tentacles). They use their 33-foot-long tentacles to take food into their mouths. Eating fish, prawns and marine life, giant squids even prey on small whales. But it is not sure whether they can be eaten by humans.

They move forward by taking water into the body through a special organ called the mantle and pushing it back with force. There are giant squids in every ocean in the world. But scientists say that they are mostly concentrated around South Africa, Australia, North America and Europe. Their life span is regarding five years. They are said to release hundreds of thousands of eggs in a single breeding season. But the lion’s share of these become food for other sea creatures. The rest will hatch and new monsters will come out.
