Let’s start by talking regarding numbers and dates that have to do with THE MUSICAL ADVENT CALENDAR: It is issue number 15 of this festival from the cultural mediation forge of FRIEDL PREISL. And like all the years before, in 2023 there will be 23 evenings to experience from December 1st to 23rd that will, well, sweeten the not entirely unproblematic pre-Christmas period of collective consumption culmination. This usually means very immediate concert experiences in mostly rather compact locations, often in places where it is also regarding pampering and enjoyment, regarding people coming together under desirable circumstances.
As with other Preisl formats (KlezMORE, Accordion Festival) lovable traditions have been established over the years (decades), just as new artists and performance venues continue to join the lively cultural dance. Which offers a selected cornucopia of what music can currently be experienced in Vienna.
The themes of closeness and neighborhood, which fundamentally resonate with the Advent calendar, are highlighted by Julia Lacherstorfer in the quartet at the opening Porgy & Bess also artistically in focus.
