“Music has the magical power to bring us to indefinable experiences. Music is a universal human expression, transcending barriers of language, religion, ethnicity, culture and even political differences,” said Black Brothers Official Manager, Frans Pigome in Jakarta, some time ago.

Black Brothers was a band from Papua in the 1970s to 1980s which shook the country’s music scene. Among his hit songs are the Story of a Pramuria, Doomsday Day, Mutiara Hitam, and Sajojo. Then, there are songs in Papuan language, such as Saman Doye and Huembello.
This band flourished under the cool hands of manager Andi Ayamiseba with the personnel Hengky Mirontoneng Sumanti (vocals, lead guitar), Yochie Pattipeiluhu (keyboard), Benny Bethay (bass guitar), Stevie Mambor (drummer), David Rumagesang or Dullah Yunus (saxophone ), and Amri Kahar (trumpet, saxophone). Along the way, they were joined by Agust Rumaropen (guitar) and Sandi Bethay (vocals).
Frans explained that this band also had the character of bass beats, a thick saxphone sound, sighs at the beginning of the song, emphasizing the aroma of funk rock, which at that time was still less popular.

From the thematic side of the song, Black Brothers, continued Frans, staged contextual social messages, starting from the situation in Papua which at that time was under the grip of the military, the Vietnam war, famine in Ethiopia, the Pacific war, as well as nuclear issues.
Black Brothers has also succeeded in influencing many young bands in Papua. After Black Brothers, bands such as Black Papas, Black Sweet, Black Power, and Black Family emerged. The Black Brothers have become Indonesian music legends, Papuan music legends.
Tribute to Black Brothers
The story is soul-shaking, arouses emotions, cultivates feelings and love and is now firmly recorded in the hearts of his fans. After decades, it is time for the Black Brothers to be staged once more; not only to cure his fans’ longing, but to revive the taste and love in each of his works.

Tribute to Black Brothers is an effort to showcase the spirit contained in each of his works to be able to accompany the journey of the Indonesian people and also the land of Papua.
His works are not only regarding musical tastes but social messages that come from the depths of his heart and certainly raise the dignity of the Papuan people and have a positive influence on the civilization of the Papuan people in the Land of Papua. “I, who followed the musical journey of ‘Black Brothers’, really felt how much they loved the Land of Papua and Indonesia through their songs,” said Frans.
What remains to commemorate all that is to stage them once more in a place of honor as a form of appreciation. The Tribute to Black Brothers performance which will take place in Jakarta, Saturday (4/5), continued Frans, will involve many of the country’s top musicians such as Iwan Fals, Edo Kondologit, Nowela, Soendari Soekotjo and others,

According to him, this collaboration has the potential to create an amazing cultural fusion. Black Brothers brings elements typical of Papuan culture, while Iwan Fals is known for his deep lyrics that describe social realities.
“Overall, the collaboration between Black Brothers and Iwan Fals has great potential to bring positive change in the world of Indonesian music. Moreover, with its amazing cultural fusion, awareness of social issues, message of unity, and wider exposure, this collaboration “can be an important milestone in advancing Indonesian music and culture as a whole,” he said.
