The Lääneranna municipal government ignores the wish of the founders of the Metsküla private school to discuss the terms of the lease agreement for the school building owned by the local government.

“This is pure teasing,” said Pille Kaisel, the headmaster of Metsküla and a member of the private school NGO Metsküla Kool, to Lääne Elu on Thursday. A few hours before that, the Lääneranna municipal council had refused to discuss the lease agreement for the Metsküla school building.

“The Economic Committee discussed various letters. We did not have a common position,” said Hardi Pikkmets, chairman of the economy committee of the Läänerantna municipal council, at the session. – “The Economic Committee has not formed a position. What are we discussing here,” said the chairman of the Läänerantna municipal council, attorney-at-law Armand Reinmaa. The municipal council decided that the contract will be discussed in a month.

The mills of the local government grind slowly, but the lease agreement is fast: in order to get a training permit, there must be a building in which to run a school, and this must be proven to the Ministry of Education and Science with a contract.

The training permit application had to be submitted by April 1, but what is not there is the contract. The Metsküla cultural association has been trying to conclude a contract since last autumn, but it has not been successful. First of all, the municipal government found that a contract can be signed, but a school cannot be held there. The negotiations dragged on for months. At the meeting on March 28, the council decided that the parents have to pay rent: 500 euros for the furnishings and 500 euros for the building. For the parents, it came like a bolt from the blue, because until now there was no talk of rent.
