This became possible following the mayor Dimitar Nikolov responded to the request of parents, that these activities, which have proven their positive effect, be provided free of charge on the territory of the municipal swimming pools. For the implementation of the adapted activities of children with disabilities in the water environment, the Municipality of Burgas attracted a specialist in aquatic rehabilitation and adapted physical activity and sports, who is certified by both the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Worldwide Aquatic Bodywork Association /WABA/. The duration of the classes will be in the range of 40-60 minutes, depending on the age, degree of disability and secondary diseases of the child. For this purpose, the water temperature in the pools will be maintained within the limits: 27-28 degrees in a 25-meter pool and 30-32 degrees in a small one. Classes will be held in groups and individually with or without an assistant in the water depending on the child’s functional capabilities. They include additional devices and means, through which those involved can more easily adapt, both to the water environment, and to the assimilation of new motor activities, which will increase the functional capabilities of the child. The means and methods in the correctional aspect will be tailored once more to the individual possibilities, the severity of the disability and the accompanying secondary diseases in order to improve the physical and mental development of the children. In order to be included in the activities, it is necessary for the parents to provide a copy of TELK, epicrisis and a document from the personal physician regarding the absence of contraindications and health risk for the child. Adapted physical activity is a general term for all services and activities that contribute to an active and healthy lifestyle of people with disabilities and deviations in health status through physical activity, tailored to their functional capabilities. On a global scale, aquatic rehabilitation and adapted swimming are used, not only for the prevention of secondary diseases of children with disabilities, but also are the key to their physical, social and mental adaptation in society. In addition to water rehabilitation, the Municipality of Burgas will continue to work on various programs for motor activity aimed at children with disabilities. Registrations for the free water activities will be made by phone: 0878 193 099 – Veselina Stankova.
