The work of the Deliberative Council of the city of Córdoba is advancing at a good pace following almost 15 years of paralysis and will not be inaugurated before the 2023 elections.
The municipal clarification is of a defensive type: they emphasize that the works carried out by the Roggio-Riva joint venture require more than 2,800 million pesos and 14 months of work. They point it out to deny that the works plan carried out by the municipal administration of Martín Llaryora has electoral purposes.
They also ensure that many works are enabled without inaugurations – resurfacing, sewer relief, installation of public lighting – and deny that the acts have an electoral impact. “What has an impact is what improves the quality of life in the city,” they say from the Palacio 6 de Julio.
In 2022, the municipality allocated a quarter of its income to capital investment, the highest figure in many years. In 2023, it will be regarding 22 percent of the resources.
There are works in progress of special political significance. That of the Deliberative Council is the most relevant at an institutional level, because the city proposed to build a new legislative headquarters following the fire of a rented headquarters that occurred on October 14, 2005, during the administration of Luis Juez.
The situation of the Comedia theater is identical, also devoured by a fire in July 2007. This work has already completed its civil stage and everything indicates that it will be inaugurated during the celebrations of the 450th anniversary of the city of Córdoba, next July.
Around the same time, the comprehensive restoration of the ground floor of the 6 de Julio Palace will be completed, a work that aims to restore the original image of that building, which in 2019 was declared a National Architectural Monument and has heritage protection.
Before that date, the architectural work of Plaza España will also be completed, inaugurated without being ready by Ramón Mestre in 2019 and closed since 2020 due to construction defects that are being resolved.
Around the middle of the year, the Biodiversity Park would also be inaugurated –on the premises of what used to be the zoo– and the Environmental corridor that integrates it, in the area of Calle Rondeau at 700.
The Llaryora administration is also committed to completing the high-altitude bike path in the next 60 days, a work that costs more than 770 million pesos and is financed jointly with the Province. It is a journey of more than 1,300 meters between the General Paz and Juniors neighborhoods and the Sarmiento park, crossing over the river.
The remodeling and enhancement of the Mercado Sud, which is 80 percent complete, will also be inaugurated before the elections. Instead, the comprehensive restoration of the General Paz Cultural Center has just begun.
In terms of green spaces, there is also a very intense schedule of openings. The most ambitious work is that of the Las Heras park, under construction almost since the beginning of the Llaryora administration.
Work is progressing at the Rubén Martí Environmental Pole, in various sectors of Sarmiento Park, in Los Algarrobos Park and in numerous neighborhood plazas. The ones in Plaza Alberdi in the General Paz neighborhood and the one in Plaza de las Américas are two of the most outstanding works.
