The Municipal Philharmonic of Derveni impressed at the events for the liberation of Patras from the Ottomans. With applause and admiration, the people of Patra rewarded the participants in the procession of the armored vehicles and Cultural Associations honoring the liberation of Patras from the Ottomans.
On the morning of Sunday, November 3, 2024, in the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Evangelistria, a eulogy was held under the Bishop of Kernitsis, Mr. Chrysanthos, and at 11 a.m., a brilliant parade of armed processions and cultural associations took place on the pedestrian street of Riga Feraios, ending in the forecourt of the I.N. Agios Andreas, where Mr. Chrysanthos performed a trisagio, speeches were made and wreaths were laid.
The procession was opened by the Municipal Philharmonic of Derveni and was followed by the Eagles of Moria together with other delegations from cultural associations from Patras, such as the Association of Kalavrytins and Friends of Patras “Agia Lavra”, Pangalavrytinos, Souli Association, Folklore Dance Club of Patras, as well as from others regions of the Peloponnese such as the Cultural Association of Nedousias of Kalamata, Association of the Revival of Descendants of Souliots of Nafpaktia. The deputy regional governor of Achaia Fokion Zaimis also participated in the procession.
The initiative belonged to the “Panagiotis Karatzas” Festival of Historical Revival of Patras, which organized again this year for the third consecutive year, events for the liberation of Patras from the Ottomans which took place on October 7, 1828, and marked the birth of the new city of Patras and the freedom of its inhabitants and is included in the framework of the Protokleteia under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Patras.
The Municipal Philharmonic of Derveni performed musically the well-known classical work of Hans Zimmer “Gladiator” in an arrangement for the Band of the Chief Musician of the Municipal Philharmonic “Ioannis Kokonetsis” Dimitris Michalou who also conducted the Philharmonic throughout the procession in the city of Patras, while the chief musician of the Municipal Philharmonic of Derveni pleasantly surprised by participating as a tuba player in the music mission of Derveni filling the gap due to the studies of tuba student Konstantinos Rodopoulos.
