The MSG Sphere: The Breathtaking Marvel of Architecture and Technology at NBA Summer League 2023 in Las Vegas

It’s not just Victor Wembanyama who is attracting attention in this Summer League 2023. The MSG Sphere in Las Vegas, which lit up for the first time a week ago, clearly does not go unnoticed. Focus on this marvel of architecture and technology, which we owe to the owner of the Knicks James Dolan (yes yes).

Hard to miss when you get to Paradise, Nevada. From the road leading to Las Vegas, you can easily make out this huge sphere disguised as a basketball during the summer league.

The Exosphere features 580K square feet of fully-programmable LED lighting, making it the largest LED screen in the world ????

This crazy project that has just seen the light of day is to the credit of the American businessman James Dolan, owner of the New York Knicks, and his company The Madison Square Company. The construction, which was completed very recently, lasted more than four years at a total cost of 2.3 billion dollars. With 111 meters high, 157 meters wide (max) and a capacity of 18,000 seated spectators, it is the largest sphere ever built.

But what makes this building famous is the giant screen that covers its dome : 54,000 square meters of surface covered by 1.2 million LED spotlights capable of producing more than 256 different colors, that’s impressive. Above all, it gives very beautiful images, and not just basketballs (even if that’s what we prefer). We let you watch the show.

The dome was illuminated for the first time on July 4, on the occasion of theIndependance Day, the national holiday in the United States. It displayed the message “Hello world” (“Hi world“) followed by the American flag and fireworks. He then alternated between planet Earth, a giant eye, the Moon and magnificent landscapes, before transforming into a basketball during the NBA Summer League which takes place from July 7 to 17 in Las Vegas.

The interior of the room will perhaps less excite fans of the orange ball. The Sphere is indeed not a building intended for sporting events (apart from potential boxing matches), but above all a performance hall. The U2 group has already planned a 25-concert tour there between September and October 2023, proof of the enthusiasm it arouses. If Lady DOLLA were in Vegas, we might find a compromise, right?

There was already no shortage of attractions in Vegas, and the Sphere was added to the must-see list for those visiting Nevada. Between a visit to the Grand Canyon and a ride on the Ferris wheel, it’s worth a look!
