The MR would not support the text
The PS claims to be supported on the content of its text by all of the government parties, with the notable exception of the MR. “There remain too many unanswered questions at this time. For the moment, without major changes to the text, there will be no support from the MR for the resolution,” confirms Michel De Maegd, federal deputy, who specifies that discussions are taking place between collaborators to try to resolve the equation. “For example, on the total nature of the ceasefire, will we really be able to enforce it by a terrorist group,” asks the MP. How can we ensure that Hamas will not take advantage of this to reorganize and plan new attacks?” Regarding the new sanctions, Michel De Maegd assures that his party might accept them on individual settlers, but not sanction the State of Israel as a whole.
“This importation of the conflict into Gaza is dangerous”: in the Brussels municipalities, the PS is putting pressure to change the Federal position
The situation as the vote approaches is therefore very tense, with a torn majority. The risk of an alternative majority does not frighten the socialists, who call for “everyone to take a position”. The PTB, which announces that it is in favor of the text, might weigh the balance in the event of refusal by the MR. This would then create an alternative majority in the Foreign Relations Committee. A situation that always brings with it its share of tensions.
The vote will take place following the discussions which will begin around 2 p.m. in Parliament.
