“Working for the future” will be the pre-campaign slogan of the French-speaking liberals, who are giving themselves a new logo at the same time.
The president of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez, launched his party on Saturday into the campaign for the 2024 elections. In front of the activists gathered at the Lac de l’Eau d’heurehe listed some of his party’s central themes in the coming months and unveiled a revamped logo as well as a pre-campaign slogan: “Working for the future.”
Employment in Wallonia occupied a pride of place in the liberal president’s speech. Bouchez criticized social and unemployment policies which, according to him, explain the number of job seekers in the south of the country. “How can we explain today that Belgium has 200,000 vacancies and that Wallonia has 230,000 job seekers? Yes, I accept it, we can be stricter in social policy, in unemployment rules, because this social policy becomes destructive of well-being and condemns individuals to remain on welfare all their lives”, a- he said. “Solidarity must go both ways. When society needs your work, you have to respond.”

Mr. and Mrs repeated his demand for a reduction in public spending and tax reform of eight billion euros on work, which is not offset by an increase in taxation on other areas such as consumption or housing. He also called for an evaluation of public policies. “The MR does not want less State, it wants better State,” assured the president.
Another theme: security. “There is nothing wrong with being safe. We must be fair. The rule of law must be respected but we must put an end to laxity. Fear must change sides“, affirmed Georges-Louis Bouchez. Beyond additional resources for the police and justice, the liberals are asking for “a change of mentality”, administrative and judicial rules which make it possible to immediately sanction each act of delinquency. “We must ensure that honest people can live peacefully and that those who ruin the lives of their fellow human beings are punished with certainty, and that they are given the taste of starting once more.”
It is with MRalso reaffirmed its attachment to Europe and pleaded for a strong industrial and agricultural policy with regard to climate objectives. “Industry and agriculture are actors who will save the climate, not enemies,” Bouchez said.

The French-speaking left, finally, was in the sights of the liberals on Saturday. “We must stop thinking in French-speaking Belgium that the left-wing model works… It works so well that no one in the world copies it,” the president said.
