The MP denounces incidents with ultraviolet light that occurred in the Quetzaltenango hospital

Representatives Evelyn Morataya and Karina Paz filed a complaint with the Public Ministry once morest the authorities of the Rodolfo Robles national hospital in Quetzaltenango.

This is due to two cases of alleged exposure to ultraviolet light in which workers from the Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) and the Ministry of Health suffered damage to their faces and eyes.

The fact was known through a message published by Congresswoman Karina Paz on social networks on the night of Thursday, February 22, a group of CGC workers arrived at the Quetzaltenango hospital to carry out an audit.

The authorities of that healthcare center assigned them a room to carry out their work since last Monday, February 19, but there they were exposed to ultraviolet light that was not perceptible, but which caused burns to at least eight people.

The complaint filed by the deputies is for the crime of specific injuries for what happened.

However, they also filed complaints for the alleged commission of the crimes of abuse of authority, embezzlement, breach of duties, influenza trafficking and fraud derived from other actions of the hospital authorities.

Health is already investigating the incident with ultraviolet light

The Ministry of Health assured that they are already carrying out an investigation to determine what happened and the head of that ministry expressed solidarity with the people who were injured.

“We are beginning investigations to establish the causes of this event and we offer our medical support and accompaniment to the Comptroller General of Accounts staff who are affected,” they explained.

Meanwhile, in a statement published by the Comptroller General of Accounts, it was assured that this entity will provide support to the auditors who were injured.

In addition, they requested an objective investigation and the deduction of responsibilities for what happened.
