(CNN Spanish) — “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace”. With this message, Pelé’s daughter, Kely Nascimento, announced the death of her father, the world soccer legend.

The publication on Instagram already has more than tens of millions of “likes” and thousands of comments.

Pelé, the soccer legend, died this Thursday at the age of 82 due to multi-organ failure caused by the progression of colon cancer, according to a statement from the hospital where he spent the last month of his life hospitalized.

During these last weeks, and as we were able to learn through reports from relatives, his children and grandchildren accompanied the former soccer player.

Kely Nascimento kept fans of the King of Soccer updated with several photos from the hospital, including one in which she is lying on top of her father.

Pelé was born on October 23, 1940 in Três Corações, Brazil, and began playing soccer professionally at the age of 15.

He had seven recognized children: with Rosemeri Cholbi: Kely, Edson and Jennifer; with Anisia Machado: Sandra (died of cancer in 2006); with Lenita Kurtz: Flavia Christina; with Assíria Lemos: Joshua and Celeste.
