Damien Chazelle’s Oscar-winning film will be adapted into a Broadway musical. The casting has not yet been announced.
A new success of the cinema transposed to Broadway. La La Landa tribute to the musical films of the 1950s, will be adapted into a Broadway musical, US media report.
Marc Platt, the film’s producer, oversees the project which will be directed by Bartlett Sher and written by playwrights Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker. The music will be composed like that of the film by Justin Hurwitz (who had received an Oscar).
“We’ve assembled an awesome team to create a musical that will delight the millions of fans of La La Land and allow a new audience to discover it,” Marc Platt said in a statement.
The casting has not yet been announced. And we do not know on what date the musical will be presented to the public.
Six Oscars and film concerts
La La Landwhich won six Oscars in 2017, including Best Director for Damien Chazelle and Best Actress for Emma Stone, follows the thwarted love story between a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress.
Huge worldwide success, La La Land received critical acclaim and grossed over $472 million at the worldwide box office.
Lionsgate, the studio that distributed the film, has been organizing screenings of the film for six years accompanied by musicians playing the soundtrack live. Three cine-concerts are planned in Paris at the Grand Rex in November 2023.
