The mountain Christmas continues in San Martín de los Andes: the walks to do

San Martín de los Andes celebrates the National Cordilleran Christmas Festival, a cultural, social and tourist gathering that brings together local families and tourists. lThose who go to the city on these dates will be able to celebrate with the neighbors and enjoy walks, in the most beautiful place.

The celebration schedule begins last week in Cordones de Chapelco, and continues today in the Vega Centro Delegation, on the 16th in Plaza San Martín and on the 17th in the Arenal Delegation.

The event programming includes live music, workshops for the little ones, a Christmas Fair, the participation of the “El Hinojal” Military Fanfare and the presence of Santa Claus along with the Volunteer Firefighters who will interact with the little ones. To close the celebration, the Christmas tree will be lit.

This event was created by residents, merchants, institutions and companies of the city in 1977, in order to celebrate the spirit of the community during the Christmas season.


What to do in San Martín de los Andes, this long weekend


When you arrive, the first thing you should do is go out to explore the center and get to the lake. The fact is that, being located on Lake Lácar, the waterfront is always close. The Bandurrias and Abanico hills frame a panoramic view of great beauty. All the landscape that can be seen towards the lake, including this one, is the jurisdiction of the National Parks Administration.

You will see the tourist dock, from there the main water activities on the lake take place. Lake excursions depart daily. If you are thinking regarding a boat trip, the trip to Quila Quina is a good option. It leaves from the pier on the waterfront, lasts 30 minutes, It costs $17,000 (round trip) until December 31 and takes you to the most beautiful beaches of the Lanín National Park.

Argentine retirees and pensioners have a 20% discount on the 10am departure. It leaves on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a guide at 11:30am and returns at 3:15pm or 6pm.


Lake Lolog


If you take the other path you will reach the Lolog, for National Route 62 is regarding 12 kilometers. When you reach the fork following a straight line of regarding three kilometres.m, you can choose to go to the popular Playa Bonita (on the left) chosen for its low waters and full sun, ideal for families looking for the safety of children. Keep in mind that there is no lifeguard service, since the summer season has not yet started.

On the path to the right, you immediately cross the bridge over the Quilquihue River, an excellent fishing area. The path continues along the edge of the lake, with beautiful views of the opposite bank, largely forested with pine trees.

Approximately five kilometers away you will find a new detour on the left, well signposted, that leads to Puerto Arturo, a corner strategically located in front of the lake, already in the jurisdiction of the Lanín National Park.


Walks along the trails of the Islita


La Islita is a small and attractive beach on the lake Lácar, on lands of the Mapuche community and protected by the Lanín National Park, easy access and great natural beauty.

La Islita beach is located 6 km from the city of San Martín de los Andes, It is accessed by provincial route 48 that leads to the Hua Hum international pass and then turn left, taking the path that leads to the Bandurrias viewpoint.

It is ideal for a visit on foot or by bicycle. The path passes through the lands of the Mapuche community, among the smoke of the chimneys and the bleating of the sheep, to finally arrive at a bay where silence and Lake Lácar await.

Separated by half a hundred meters, there is a rocky island with incipient vegetation, which can be accessed by swimming from the beach. In summer, the residents of the area charge access to the place, and offer fine fruits, drinks and homemade bread for sale. If you want to camp, you must request permission from the local residents.


When you travel, on each excursion you must remember: Don’t make a fire, go back to the city with your waste and if you come across wildlife, please don’t feed them.
