Toto Cutugno The legendary Toto Cutugno, who celebrated his 80th birthday in early July, died on August 22 in the arms of doctors at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, where he was battling prostate cancer, which was discovered in him 14 years ago.

The farewell ceremony took place in the ancient basilica of Santi Nereo ed Achilleo. Thousands of fans and celebrity friends gathered to see Cutugno off on his last journey – Al Bano, Pupo, Gianni Morandi, Eros Ramazzoti and others. But at the cremation at the Lambrate cemetery, only the widow Karl and son Niko were present – the performer’s closest people, whom he might have lost at one time because of his own lies. What secrets did our beloved Toto keep?

Trouble following trouble

The childhood of the future star was overshadowed by a terrible tragedy. When Toto was barely five, his older sister Anna died before his eyes. The girl choked on Italian gnocchi pasta (something like dumplings) and suffocated.

A few months following the funeral, Toto’s brother Roberto was born. The baby suffered a serious illness from meningitis. Doctors predicted serious complications for the child. And so it happened: Roberto, who owns a security agency, has suffered all his life from headaches, increased irritability and severe motor agitation with rare hallucinations.

Trouble also befell Cutugno’s other sister: Rosanna was born with a heart defect. To save the girl, the father of the family went into debt. So Rosanna became the first child in Italy to undergo complex heart surgery. By the way, Cutugno Sr. was able to pay off the banks only in 1978, two years before his death.

By the way, the father – a naval officer, a tough Sicilian and trumpeter Domenico Cutugno – turned his son Salvatore (the full name of the artist; Toto is an abbreviation) into music.

At the age of seven, Toto Cutugno was already playing drums and performing with his dad at local venues.

At 13 he took third place in an accordion competition.

A year later he recorded his first song – La strada dell’amore (“The Road of Love”), dedicating it to the young Anna Maria, who made him a man. Toto later called this composition “terribly ugly.”

Murdered twins

Until the summer of 1967, Cutugno limited himself to short novels, devoting all his energy to music. And then he met the main woman in his life – Karla.

They met at the Dragon club in the resort town of Lignano Sabbiadoro. Toto was giving another concert, and Carla came to have fun with her friends. The girl’s parents were categorically once morest their daughter’s relationship with a poor, little-known musician. But four years later they got married. And Carla’s father, a successful businessman, had to provide for the newlyweds. He even bought them an apartment. Dad finally came to terms with his daughter’s choice following learning regarding her pregnancy. Carla was expecting twins.

In the second month, it turned out that the babies had a serious pathology and were life-threatening. No matter how Toto dreamed of children, he insisted on an abortion. Something I regretted for the rest of my life. Because, having lost her children, Carla forever lost the opportunity to become a mother.

Toto was helped to survive what happened by work and… other women.

On the advice of my wife

The artist was never shy regarding his trips to the left.

“If a woman is in love, she is always faithful,” the singer assured. – If a man is in love, it is not a fact that he will remain faithful. A man is like a child. It’s stupid, but we need to please women all the time. Yes, I cheated. But I have only one woman of my heart – my wife. Carla is a great woman. Many wanted to be close to the famous artist Toto Cutugno. And with Salvatore, who once had neither a big name nor money, there was only his wife Carla.

One of the affairs on the side almost destroyed the Italian’s marriage. In 1987, Toto became interested in flight attendant Cristina Lanci. And he didn’t notice how he completely lost his head over her. Two years later, the mistress gave birth to the artist’s son Niko.

“I rushed by car 1,300 kilometers from Sicily to Rome to see Christina and my son,” Cutugno recalled. “When I frankly told my wife regarding everything, it became a terrible blow for her. Carla suffered greatly. But in the end she forgave and accepted Niko. It was my wife who insisted that I give my son my last name. Wise!

After this, Toto abruptly broke up with Christina. Ten years ago, Italian tabloids wrote that the flight attendant drank herself to death – she was too worried regarding the betrayal of her lover, who not only promised to marry, but also called her “only beloved.” The artist’s heir moved from Rome to his father in Milan.

The last time the press caught Toto cheating on his wife was in 2012. Then he toured Romania, accompanied by a certain Betty, who was 25 years younger than the 69-year-old (at that time) Italian. At the hotel reception in Bucharest, Cutugno introduced the lady as his wife.
