“In February, the mother was detained and at that moment, custody of the girl was granted to Julian (the father) along with a visitation arrangement for the mother,” explained Claudia Zakhem, lawyer for J.S., the girl’s father, to the media. Under the agreement established by the former couple, the mother was allowed to see her daughter multiple times a week and even take her to school. However, taking advantage of this situation, on April 15th she took the girl but the child never arrived at school.

Investigators determined that around 7:30 AM on April 28, 13 days after her disappearance, and despite lacking custody, T.M. crossed the border with her daughter through the Cristo Redentor pass from the province of Mendoza in Argentina to Chile.
The woman was ultimately arrested in the Chilean city of Los Espejos and will be extradited to Argentina following the necessary protocols, in accordance with the agreements between the two countries.
The girl has already been returned to her father, who, after being informed by investigators, traveled to Chile accompanied by the minor’s paternal grandmother. Initially, it is estimated that the procedures to return to the country could take approximately 90 days.
