The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Buffalo Sabers in a home game of the regular season of the National Hockey League (NHL). The meeting ended with the score 3:2.

The winners scored a double Connor McDavid (8th and 44th minutes). Now the Canadian has 124 points (54 goals + 70 assists) in 65 games of the current regular season. Previously, the hockey player’s best result was 123 points (44+79) in the 2021/22 season.

Only two players have scored 124 points or more in a single season since 2000: Nikita Kucherov (128 in 2018/19) and Joe Thornton (125 in 2005/06).

McDavid scored his ninth game-winning goal of the season and 62 of his career, breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record of 61.

The Canadian also became the fourth player in Oilers history to score 250 goals, along with Wayne Gretzky (472), Mark Messier (300) and Jari Kurri (296).

The Canadian has been the league’s leading scorer since the 2015/16 season, when he made his NHL debut. On account of McDavid 821 (293 + 528) points, he is 118 points ahead of his closest competitor and teammate Leon Draisaitl.
