This crossover pioneered the mid-size SUV segment over three decades ago and continues to be highly sought following by buyers. All thanks to its own style, powerful engines, spacious and comfortable interior, as well as good off-road capabilities. But it has at least one drawback, and it concerns reliability.

We are talking regarding the model Ford Explorer. One of today’s most popular vehicles in the midsize SUV segment has many strengths, but as this year’s owner surveys have shown, that’s not one of them.

The Explorer was named the most unreliable car in its class in 2023, according to the Consumer Reports Auto Reliability Survey.

As part of the preparation of the material, its authors collected feedback from thousands of owners of such cars over the previous 12 months, who complained of a variety of problems, including: frequent oil leaks, brake failures, weak paintwork, engine breakdowns, electrical failures, and poor sound insulation.

Much to Ford’s regret, it was the Explorer that scored the lowest in terms of problem-free performance of any other model in the segment. Consequently, the owners called this crossover the least reliable mid-size SUV.
