The game awards, the equivalent of the video game Oscars, are not just an awards ceremony. Every year, it is the occasion for world premieres and announcements in the field of gaming, where for example, XBox unveiled its new consoles in 2019. Geoff Keighley, the one-man orchestra of this event, spoke throughout Friday’s trailer show. We have retained ten, concerning games never presented. By choice, we did not retain the trailer for Monster Hunter Wildsthe future Capcom game whose announcement concluded the ceremony: not because the license does not interest us (even if it works mainly in Asia), but because this new game which announces a much more open world remains vague on its qualities future.
1. OF
The announcement was carefully staged, with a supernatural door on stage opening to Hideo Kojima, one of the pillars of video games, the father of Metal Gear and of Death Stranding. Unveiling a new project, FROMpour Overdoseexclusive to XBox systems, presented both as “ a game, a film and a new media “. The Japanese designer tends to keep his promises of “ offer something new to the player “, we are already stamping our feet. And the hype went up a notch when Jordan Peele, the director of the films Nope et Get Out, a pope of fantasy in the USA, joined him on stage as a collaborator. The trailer was abstruse, as is often the case with Kojima, showing three actors filmed face-cam appearing to indulge in the exquisite corpse, a phrase that naturally distorts through transmission and repetition. We recognized Udo Kier, great actor of the 70s and former villain in a James Bond film. It ended with the reflection, in the eye of a player, actress Sophia Lillis, of a door opening onto something unspeakable. Singular, promising. Like the fact that Kojima is working on more than one current project, with the sequel to Death Stranding.

2. VISIONS OF MANA
What enchantment, what impatience at the return of a Square Enix license which has tended to focus on remakes and reworkings in recent years. Launched in our regions with Secret of Mana on SNES in the 90s, the Mana series returns with Visions of Mana, as is fitting with a story of a tree of life to protect, as the first images suggest. A male character was visible, but holding the hand of another female character (playable?) The trailer shows a universe as colorful as in a Dragon Questand fights as fierce as in a Nier : Automata. But we hope to quickly discover more than these prestigious references.

3. LIGHT NO FIRE
The mention of the trailer, specifying that all the images showed multiplayer phases, was important, because the images were enough to make jaws drop. The new game from the creator of No Man’s Sky takes up the principle of exploring large, partly deserted biomes. But this time in a fantasy approach and not space like the previous game, very poorly received upon its release before benefiting from constant investments from its developers. The title of the game still seems to imply great danger from the local critters, since we see a sort of golem waking up at the sight of your torch… In short, it’s very beautiful, that seems playable by several people.

4. GOD OF WAR RAGNARÖK VALHALLA
What a fuss for a simple DLC (downloadable content of a game already released)! Yes, but it’s Santa Monica Studios, one of the spearheads of the Playstation house craftsmen, it’s God of War Ragnarök, the second on the list of best games 2023, and it is free content, available to all those who have completed the game by December 12. Yes, Tuesday. This free content which had not been filtered too much will be made available in a few days. Big event then.

5. THE NEO-RETRO RETURN OF SEGA
The trailer was incredible, funny, full of easter eggs, these references intended for the enlightened public. It showed a couple of players faced with a totally improbable announcement. Sega is preparing a handful of remakes or new episodes of its cult licenses. Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe…and others, apparently. We might even have believed in a new console when the list of games came out. Sega has decided to regain control of its content and the first images are seasoned with greedy nostalgia.

6. HARMONIUM THE MUSICAL
The big emotion of the evening, a musical game whose heroine is deaf. A little girl who is passionate regarding music, and who sends glitter into her dad’s eyes – literally, since she puts it on the cymbals of her drums. The cutscenes are reminiscent of Pixar, the gameplay scenes seem poetic to pleasure. We join, we wait.

7. MARVEL’S BLADE
The half-vampire which comes out on Marvel Day, which we had glimpsed in Midnight Sunswill benefit from a game of its own, whose trailer did not reveal any gameplay scenes. On the other hand, sensation of discovering that it is Arkane, the French studio behind the very good Dishonored et Deathloop, who is in charge. And proves that he is not superstitious, his Texas branch having suffered a volley of green wood for having partly missed a game of bloodsuckers as recently as this year, with Redfall.

8. EXODUS
Hey, Matthew Mac Conaughey was at the Game awards! For his involvement in a game that seemed at times a badass version of his Interstellar filmed with Christopher Nolan. We see an astronaut separated from his family, especially from his love, and launched into a battle once morest the “Celestials”. From shooting to neat spatial sounds, dynamic gameplay, but we still really don’t know what this game developed by Archetype will be made of.

9. LOST RECORDS : BLOOD AND RAGE
The Don’t Nod teams have not only unveiled a new trailer for Banishers : Ghosts of new Edenthey revealed a game more in the vein of their past successes, Life is strange. In an aesthetic close to this series, with characters who resemble those of the first Lis and a 90s atmosphere, we discover a story that is undoubtedly quite dark, bad teenage memories that come to the surface for a group of friends.

10. JURASSIC PARK SURVIVAL
An FPS game in the middle of the most disreputable park in the world, since we don’t want to be chewed? In this year of the thirty years of the original film and its derivative games, the news was a bit surprising. A long trailer, faithful, very, even too perhaps, to Spielberg’s film. The bet is bold, but the result might be interesting.
