If it is advisable to drink regularly during the day, this is all the more true in summer. To avoid dehydration, it is advisable to drink at least 1.5 liters per day. However, as soon as the feeling of thirst is felt (and even if we should not wait for it to hydrate), our first reflex is obviously to drink water. However, it seems that scientists have found an even more thirst-quenching drink.

At the start of summer, hydration is a key point to withstand the heat. Water is therefore the drink that is consumed spontaneously, still or sparkling with ice cubes or syrup: everyone has their own preference. And if you think it allows you to quench your thirst properly, she would not be the number 1 asset.

A Scottish study, carried out a few years ago by researchers at Saint Andrews University, showed that water would not be at the top of the rankings. If the author of the work, Ronald Maughan, explains that water quickly hydrates our body, it is not the most effective.

Before being able to affirm this, several analyzes were made. The researchers wanted to compare 13 drinks in order to realize their impact on the hydration of our body. A total of 73 people took part in the experiment. The scientists thus examined the urine of the candidates and this is how they came to the following conclusion: water is not the most hydrating drink.

According to this work, to hydrate yourself at best, you should turn to.. skimmed milk.

Indeed, as Slate relayed, the experts point out that milk “contains lactose, proteins, fats and sodium which helps retain water in the body”. Thus, it slows down the work of the stomach and also slows down the production of urine, which helps to stay hydrated for longer.

Be careful, however, if milk seems to have many advantages, it is also fattier than water. It is therefore advisable to consume it in moderation. You should therefore not completely substitute it for water.
