In 2005, John Carmack, one of the original creators of Doom, released Doom RPG, a mobile title that, as its name suggests, is diametrically opposed to the perception we have of the most famous first-person shooter in history. Unfortunately, the project had been stuck on phonesto be forgotten throughout eternity… until today.
And it is that a project of very dedicated fans has managed to bring Doom RPG to PC for the first time in history, more than 15 years following its launch. The effort comes from GEC.inc groupa Costa Rican project dedicated to reverse engineering to bring video games to the PC that they are not native of this platform.
Of course, testing it can be somewhat complicated. You see, these kinds of projects generally avoid touching any kind of copyrighted item. That’s why what GEC.inc gives you are the tools so you can play if you have a copy of the title. Accessing it in 2022 is quite complicated, since you need a phone from back then that has the game installed and some way to move those files to your PC. If you succeed, yes, now you can enjoy Doom RPG on your computer.
On the other hand, the RPG had a sequel, Doom II RPG, which is still in development. the iOS App Store. The problem? It will only work with devices running older versions of Apple’s operating system. If you have one of them and want to take a look at it, you can for 99 cents. Who knows, maybe in a few years you may need your old phone to be able to port that game to PC as well.
