The Diplomat (2023)

“The Diplomat” is a contemporary political drama series that tells the story of diplomat Kate Wyler (played by Keri Russell), who should have been sent to Afghanistan, but ends up becoming the new US ambassador to the United Kingdom. Though experienced in conflict zones, Kate faces challenges in her new role, particularly dealing with the complexities of historic British mansions.

The series takes place at a time of impending war on two continents, and Kate’s mission is to avert international crises, form strategic alliances in London and adapt to being the center of attention. In addition, she needs to balance her diplomatic responsibilities with her personal life, including her marriage to fellow diplomat and politician Hal Wyler (played by Rufus Sewell).

“The Diplomat” is led by showrunner Debora Cahn, known for her work on other political series, such as “West Wing: Behind the scenes of power” and “Homeland: National Security”. The series explores the transcendence and difficulties of long-term relationships, both between countries and between people.
