The four men were taken to the Basmanny court in Moscow. Two of them pleaded guilty. They were charged with terrorism and placed in pre-trial detention. The four men are imprisoned until May 22. The date of their trial is not yet known. They face life imprisonment.

“Tortured during interrogation”
The Russian site in exile Medusa claims that the suspects “were tortured during their interrogation.” In the images of their arrival at court, broadcast by the Russian authorities, three of the men were handcuffed and bent in half by police officers. The fourth arrived with his eyes closed in a wheelchair. The suspected terrorists had blood on their faces and one of them had a bandage on his ear.
The suspects are Dalerjon Mirzoev, Saidakrami Murodali Rachavalizoda, Fariduni Shamsidin and Muhammadsobir Fayzov. The first is from Tajikistan, is 32 years old and father of four children. He admitted his guilt in the attack. The second had his ear cut off before security forces forced him to eat it. The profile of the two other suspects is not known.

“Foreign citizens”
Over the weekend, Russian authorities indicated that the suspects were “foreign citizens”, that they had been arrested in the Bryansk region and that they were heading towards the Russian-Ukranian border. Ukraine has denied any link with the Moscow attack. If the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Moscow attack, Vladimir Putin made no mention of it in his speech reacting to the attack on Saturday followingnoon.
