The Astronomical Society in Jeddah stated that astronomical calculations indicate that the moon will reach the conjunction for the month of Shawwal on Thursday, “the day of investigation” 29 Ramadan 1444, corresponding to April 20, 2023, at 07:12 am Mecca time, coinciding with an eclipse of the sun that is not seen in the homeland. Arabi.

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Eng. Majed Abu Zahra, said: “The conjunction is one of the moon’s houses, which means the meeting of the sun and the moon at one height in the sky when they are on one celestial longitude, and the moon is moving from the west of the sun to its east, and it is a global event that takes place in one moment for all across the Earth.”

And he added: “The sun will set from the horizon of Makkah Al-Mukarramah on the day of the investigation at 06:42 in the evening, and at that time the moon will be above the horizon at a height of (04) degrees, and the angle that separates it from the sun is “elongation” (05) degrees and its illumination is (0.2%), and it will set at The time is 07:06 in the evening following (24 minutes) following sunset, and thus the conditions for entering the month of Shawwal will be fulfilled astronomically – mathematically.

And he continued his speech: “As for seeing the moon with the naked eye or with monitoring devices, it is not possible (except for the CCD camera), due to its small age, its meager illumination, its presence in the glow of the setting sun, and its short stay above the horizon.”

The engineer Abu Zahra indicated that another phase of the phases of the moon will follow, called the “crescent”, which means seeing the crescent of the new moon easily following its conjunction with the sun and its exit from the phase of “al-mahaq” and a sufficient distance from the sun for the appearance of light on its surface, and this will be achieved the next day.

And he continued: “On Friday, April 21, 2023, the sun will set from the horizon of Makkah Al-Mukarramah at 06:43 pm, and the moon will be above the horizon at an altitude of (16) degrees, and the angle that separates it from the sun, “elongation” (17) degrees, and its illumination (2.4%), and its visibility will be It is very easy with the naked eye, if the sky is clear, and it will set at 08:05 pm following (1 hour and 22 minutes) following sunset.
