The “Monster of Chiclayo”: the case that rethinks chemical castration for rapists in Peru | International

The kidnapping and rape of a 3-year-old girl in Peru, by the so-called “Monster of Chiclayo”, motivated people to take to the streets to protest, demanding harsher punishments for this type of crime. Juan Enrique García, 48, admitted having kidnapped and raped the little girl, on Tuesday, April 12, in Chiclayoin the Lambayeque region, in northwestern Peru.

According to the Peruvian media, RPP Newsthe events occurred last Tuesday, April 12, when the little girl was reported missing.

Then, the following Wednesday, the National Police found the minor and arrested the alleged culprit, 48 years old, who was accused of the crimes of “sexual rape” and “kidnapping in grievance” of a 3-year-old girl.

After his capture, the streets of Chiclayo were filled with dozens of people demanding life imprisonment for the man, whom they called the “Monster of Chiclayo”. Even an undetermined group set fire and set fire to the defendant’s home.

Chemical castration in Peru

After knowing the fact, the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, described it as “atrocious and inhumane” and that this “leads to an enormous reflection as a country to adopt policies more severe state public that safeguard the human rights of the most defenseless, who are our boys and girls”.
