The Momentum True Wireless 3, terribly stylish headphones

The German brand delivers with its Momentum True Wireless 3 one of the best pairs of wireless headphones on the market.

Audio specialist, the Sennheiser brand launched a few years ago on the market of wireless headphones, following in the footsteps of Apple in a market that was at the time on the verge of exploding. Its products have not all had the same success. However, the Momentum True Wireless 2 are still one of the most successful models to date. This is why we waited with some impatience for his successor.

The box takes up a lot of space…

Retailing for €250, the Momentum True Wireless 3 improve the recipe to offer one of the best audio experiences of the moment. A price that remains competitive for a product that is positioned more on the high end.

While retaining the characteristic design of their ancestors, the True Wireless 3 evolve in their form. They are a little thinner, fit better in the hollow of the ear and seemed to us more comfortable to wear than their ancestors. Several silicone tips of different sizes are provided to adapt to all ear shapes. Their outer casing, resistant to projections, is IPX4 certified. We immediately note a major change at this level. This new model has been designed to be suitable for sports use as well. The headphones fit much better in the ear than their elders. And you can even use them in the rain.

On the other hand, it will be necessary to deal with a very bulky box. Clearly, Sennheiser hasn’t learned its lesson here. The case and the general design of the headphones may be excellent, but it is difficult to slip this big box into your pocket. We will therefore rather tend to leave it at the bottom of our suitcase or bag. Clearly, the German brand should have reviewed the dimensions of the case. This one is simply not suitable for everyday use.

We were also a little disappointed with the autonomy. The manufacturer announces 7 hours of battery life with a charge and up to 28 hours with the case. In practice, we fall much lower with the active noise reduction activated. It’s still decent, but we’re a bit below average here.

  • Connectivity
    Bluetooth 5.2

  • Audio quality
    Codec aptX

  • Active noise reduction
    Oui

The headphones, on the other hand, inherit some interesting features. Via the app it is possible to customize the touch shortcuts. By sliding your finger on the right earphone you can for example pause the music, activate the ANC on the left… Increase the sound by pressing twice on the right, and reduce it by pressing twice on the left… L user can also choose to tailor the sound to their preferences. In short, it’s pretty well done and very quick to configure.

On the sound side, Sennheiser scores as always very strong with a balanced and very natural sound. The stereo sound is immersive and manages to offer natural mids, clear highs and deep bass, adapting easily to all types of sounds.

Active noise cancellation is also on the program and at this level, Sennheiser has taken a big step forward. The system continuously monitors the level of ambient noise to be able to suppress it in real time. The transparency mode also allows you to listen to your environment in all circumstances. In the race, outside, you can completely cut yourself off from the world so as not to hear a single noise. Sennheiser has done an excellent job at this level.

Strangely enough, the result is not as conclusive on the vocal part. Despite its 3 microphones, the Momentum True Wireless 3 are struggling to make voice calls in optimal conditions. Outside, noises sometimes make the conversations on the correspondent’s side inaudible. Indoors, however, this is not a problem. But if you often make calls with your headphones, it is important to know that this model may not be the most suitable.

Despite their small flaws, the Momentum True Wireless 3 remain an excellent product, if not one of the best pairs of true wireless headphones on the market. They are distinguished from other models by their stylish design, their natural audio but also and above all their comfort of use. We do not feel the slightest fatigue even following four hours of intensive use. Unlike their ancestors and many “pro” models, they can also be used in a sports setting, which gives them a clear advantage over their competitors. A winning combo for the German brand, which hits very hard.

The +:

  • A very stylish design
  • Also suitable for sports
  • Very comfortable to wear
  • Effective noise reduction
  • Customizable touch controls
  • A very balanced and natural sound
  • The charging box, superb
  • A very correct price (250€)

The – :

  • A charging box that is too bulky
  • Autonomy that disappoints a little
  • Not ideal for making hands-free calls

So, do we crack?

With its Momentum True Wireless 3, Sennheiser delivers an excellent successor to its True Wireless 2, which were already one of the best products on the market. Sennheiser earphones stand out from other models on the market for their very daring design, their impeccable finish, the perfect balance of their sound and their comfort of use. The sound reproduction seems much more natural than with conventional headphones. Sound level, we are close to perfection. And even following several hours of intensive use, we do not feel the slightest discomfort. However, you will have to deal with a few small flaws: a bulky case (but terribly stylish!) and moderately convincing use as a hands-free kit. Too often during our tests, our correspondents reported a poor sound level. As you will have understood, these are headphones that are aimed at music enthusiasts and not necessarily at mobile workers. At €250, the product is positioned at a price that remains very competitive.
