Exclusive translation: A judge has ordered the detention of a man accused of raping and carrying a 10-year-old girl from Ohio.
According to the “Daily Mail” Fuentes, 27, is accused of two criminal charges related to the rape of a girl who traveled to Indiana to have an abortion.
Refusal to release the accused
Franklin County District Judge Julie Lynch ruled that the accused be denied bail.
“To allow him to go home, the psychological impact and trauma would be undue to the victim,” Lynch said. She also cited the “physical, mental and emotional trauma” the girl had suffered as a result of being raped and having an abortion.
Fuentes, from Guatemala, was summoned earlier this month and bail was initially set at $2 million. He remains in the Franklin County Jail. He faces the possibility of life imprisonment without a chance of parole.
Confessions of the accused
The girl confirmed that Fuentes attacked her, Fuentes confessed to Columbus police investigators, and DNA tests of the aborted fetus confirmed that Fuentes was the father, Franklin County District Attorney Dan Meyer and Detective Geoffrey Hoon said in court Thursday.
Fuentes’ attorney, Brian Bowen, argued against a hearing without a bond and unsuccessfully asked Lynch to draw up a reasonable bond. He said there was no evidence of physical abuse outside of rape cases or that the girl was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
He also said that Fuentes had family ties in Columbus, that he had a job, and that there was no evidence of a criminal history. Fuentes lived in the area for about seven years.
