On December 9, 2017, it aired here on MacMagazineon a Saturday, the first edition of the Mural MM.
As we explained in a post published days before, the idea was to offer readers a space to share cool, creative and interesting photos captured by their iPhones on a weekly basis.
Since then, without fail, we have published a new MM Wall every Saturday… until two weeks ago, with issue CCLXXXVIII. Some readers noticed that we didn’t have a new issue last week, and we are here sad to inform you that the MM Wall really he finished.
And no, it wasn’t our decision/choice. It turns out that, at some point in the last two weeks, Meta decided to remove from Instagram an option that allowed us to browse through all the photos posted with the hashtag #muralMM chronologically. This was, of course, how we managed to collect the images marked by you and select five of them every Saturday.
Now, if you access any hashtag through Instagram on iPhone, there are only two filter options: “Most Relevant Posts” and “Recent Most Relevant Posts”. A third, “Recents”, has been removed; it was she who, in fact, showed all the photos chronologically. On the Web it’s even worse, we only have nine(!) photos identified as “Top publications”.
In other words, Meta didn’t just kill Mural MM. She killed the resource of hashtags do Instagram as a whole, which becomes basically useless that way for anyone using it to collect/organize photos or even browse cool themed content.
Then that’s it. I hope you enjoyed the 288 edits that we publish from the MM Wall, whose hashtag accumulate today 17.8 thousand photos posted. It was good while it lasted. ????????
