An Australian teacher who went missing from Brazzaville in Congo on October 26 last year was found to have been poisoned to death by his ex-girlfriend and fed to crocodiles. Music teacher Mark Ciavarella was poisoned by his ex-girlfriend and thrown into a crocodile-infested lake.
Mark Ciavarella, 57, from Leyton, New South Wales, arrived in the African country of Congo six years ago. First taught English and music at the American International School and then moved to the French Consular School.
Police have found that Ciavarella’s ex-partner Clement Bebecca was involved in the murder. Bebeka said that he decided to kill Ciavarella following he told her that he was ending his relationship with her and returning to Australia. Police will produce their confessional statement in court.
“I arrived at the apartment in Brazzaville with a friend and met Ciavarella. But he said he was ending his relationship with me and was going back to Australia. “The murder was committed to steal his money and bank ATM card,” Bebeka said in his confessional statement. According to the instructions of the friend who was with him, Ciavarella mixed poison in the water that was placed on the table for him to drink.
Ciavarella was unconscious following taking the poison and died within half an hour. Later, with the help of another person, Ciavarella’s body was dumped in a water body full of crocodiles. Ciavarella’s family is shocked to learn of his death. Brother Darren said his brother knew Brazzaville was a dangerous place, but he was passionate regarding teaching children in Africa.
