The mayor of Machu Picchu, Elvis Latorre, reported Monday that the gold plaque and parchment that declare the historic place as one of the seven wonders of the modern world, recognized in 2007, are missing, agencies review.
“The gold plate and the scroll we do not have. We will make the corresponding complaint to be able to determine those responsible ”, Latorre affirmed to the RPP radio station, where he assured that these distinctions are the patrimony of the Peruvian State and his district, reported EFE.
The gold plaque and scroll were handed over to local authorities in 2017, when Machu Picchu was declared one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World.
The reception of the award was commemorated in Peru last week, one more year following the appointment, but without the distinctive objects. “We cannot show it because we do not have it within the Municipality,” lamented the mayor.
Latorre explained that the mayor’s office only has “a silver plaque” that is in the mayor’s office. The mayors of Peru began their term on January 1, following being elected on October 2, 2022.
