Interior Minister Abdel Wafi Laftit sent an official letter to governors of regions, workers of prefectures, regions, and provincial workers in the Kingdom, in which he called on them to confront illegal transportation through smart applications.

In the same correspondence, Laftit called for “improving the quality of transportation services by taxis,” by ensuring the strengthening of monitoring, in coordination with the competent security services, on activities of transporting people practiced illegally and without obtaining the necessary licenses, and to optimally implement the instructions directed to you through Circular No. 19959 dated November 1, 2022 on the illegal activity of transporting people using electronic applications.

Many young people work in the field of transportation through applications that citizens use extensively, but taxi owners consider it a secret, competitive activity.

The Minister of the Interior, Abdel Wafi Laftit, had previously said that providing transportation services via smart applications without a license is considered an “illegal and impermissible” practice, stressing the necessity of “obtaining a prior license to practice mediation services between carriers and customers.”

In his answer to a written question submitted by the Progress and Socialism Party team in the House of Representatives, Laftit stressed the necessity of all providers of passenger transportation services intended for the public to obtain a prior license to practice this activity, as well as special licenses for each vehicle used for the same purpose, according to the applicable legal framework, especially the provisions. Royal Decree No. 1.63.260 regarding transportation by automobile via roads.

Minister Laftit stressed “the necessity for drivers who practice transportation activities to have a professional driver’s card and a trust license issued by local authorities for taxi drivers,” noting that “the Ministry of the Interior has worked to strengthen coordination with the government sectors and relevant institutions, as well as with the Presidency of the Public Prosecution.” In order to take the necessary measures to curb these illegal practices.”

The document stated: “Many of these practices have been recorded at the level of a number of cities by some companies that, without requesting or obtaining any license, organized and provided services for transporting people and mediation in the field of transport by adopting digital applications to link communication between customers and some non-professional drivers.” Those who use private cars.”

According to Laftit, “the regional and regional authorities responsible for a number of cities are working in coordination with security services and judicial bodies to take the necessary measures to reduce this illegal situation, and to limit the growing phenomenon of practicing activities of transporting people in an unprofessional manner and outside the legal controls and conditions in place to regulate transport services and ensure The safety of passengers and the quality of services provided, and to avoid any imbalance in the transportation system or harm to the interests of transportation professionals who are committed to the laws in force in this regard.”

The Minister stated that the Ministry of the Interior “is working to issue global decisions specifying the conditions and modalities for practicing the activity of linking communication between the customer and the taxi driver using modern technological means and licensing procedures to practice this activity,” as “a number of specialized companies have been kept pace, which have developed digital services and platforms based on Mobile phones enable users to make immediate or advance reservations for taxis, in order to obtain the necessary licenses and carry out their activities in respect of the laws and regulations applicable in the field of transportation and the rules of fair competition and in conditions that ensure safety. And the rights of both users of these services and professionals in the taxi transport sector.”
