The Ministry of Health and Population had warned of an increase in the number of smokers, and added that the number of smokers in 1990 exceeded 870 million smokers, and in 2015 it became 933 million, and currently it reached 1.3 billion smokers around the world, and the Ministry of Health called on citizens to quit smoking.
The Ministry of Health and Population stated in a report that health awareness is currently being raised for the community, pointing out that the campaigns led by the Ministry include the dissemination of educational materials designed to address the health risks of all tobacco products, taking into account all social and economic standards, through social media, in addition to Television and radio programmes, to reach young people, especially those between the ages of 15 and 24.
The report added that the phenomenon of smoking has become a threat to countries and individuals in general, due to the health, environmental and economic damages caused by tobacco. The tobacco industry causes harm to our environmental planet, which necessitates the need to tighten control over these practices and work to reduce them, pointing out that countries suffer economic losses in medical and environmental issues due to the effects of smoking.
