Books – Ahmed Gomaa:
The Ministry of Health and Population announced the start of work on updating the treatment map to combat drug addiction, at the level of the governorates of the Republic, in cooperation with ministries, authorities and all concerned authorities.
This came during a workshop organized by the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, to discuss available treatment places, study positive suggestions and ideas from experts, discuss the proposed budget and funding sources, in addition to defining the tasks of the participating bodies.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed the agreement of all concerned authorities on the need to participate in updating the treatment map, placing it in the licensed and available treatment centers for addiction treatment affiliated with the Ministries of Health and Population, and Social Solidarity, and obtaining the necessary approvals and permits to conduct field research in cooperation with all partners.
In a statement, “Abdul Ghaffar” indicated the necessity of the participation of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, and treatment places affiliated with religious institutions and non-governmental organizations, in the updated treatment map, stressing the importance of motivating treatment centers to participate in field research, and reconciling the conditions of unlicensed treatment centers to integrate them within the map.
He added that a proposal to hold a workshop on the results of the Mediterranean School Survey (MedSPAD) concerning the prevalence rates of alcohol and substances that cause psychological and physical dependence for middle and secondary school students was discussed.
For her part, Dr. Manen Abdel-Maqsoud, Secretary-General of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, said that the General Secretariat of Mental Health has developed treatment services for addiction patients according to the research results of the addiction map in 2018, and worked to strengthen the research and awareness role of the community.
Abdel-Maqsoud welcomed the cooperation with ministries and partner bodies, which comes as a continuation of the process of effective partnership in the implementation and implementation of projects supporting mental health and addiction treatment in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
