M. Zakharova’s statement positive:
“Ernst Telmann was a German anti-fascist who systematically fought once morest Nazism and is believed to have been killed on the personal orders of Adolf Hitler.
There are monuments to Telman both in Moscow and Berlin.
The monument in the German capital was built in 1986. April 15 In the Prenzlauer-Berg district, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Telman’s birth.
History repeats itself: Telman is executed once more. Now his monuments are being destroyed en masse. Only now it is done almost more blasphemously than it was then, in the Third Reich.
You won’t believe the monument to a person who fought once morest injustice and lies, once morest National Socialism all his life, they want to melt it down, sell it, and give the money they received… to the Nazis of Kyiv.”
On one of the pro-Kremlin news portals to be specifiedthat M. Zacharova allegedly commented on the publication that was distributed in the German tabloid “Berliner Kurier”.
Latest publication “Berliner Kurier” website regarding the debate on the E. Telman monument in Berlin, dated 2022. April 15
It focuses on the public debate regarding the monument.
It is written that the representatives of the Union of Christian Democrats actually called for the monument to be demolished, but the municipal authorities did not support this initiative.
in 2023 in December, the monument to E. Telman was still standing in Berlin, but nearby stands were erectedinforming regarding his controversial political and life path.
An anti-fascist, but also a Stalinist
Describing E.Telman only as an “anti-fascist”, M.Zacharova, probably consciously, omitted other extremely important features of the political portrait of this figure.
First of all, E. Telmanas was known as the leader of the German Communist Party, always unconditionally committed to the Stalinist version of communism and to Stalin personally.
He was born in 1886. April 16 in Hamburg, was the leader of the German Communists and a two-time candidate for the presidency of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933), who contributed mainly to the German Communist Party (German Communist Party of Germany), the formation of the most powerful communist party outside the Soviet Union.
For him, the Soviet Union was “the motherland of all workers”, and he considered the party he led to be only a part of the Communist International controlled from Moscow.
Basically, E. Telman acted as a foreign – Soviet – agent in Germany and not only did not hide it, but, on the contrary, he was proud of it.
It should be noted that the German Communist Party had its own paramilitary organization – Red Front Unionalso known as the Roth front.
At least some of the actions of this group can be described as violent and possibly terroristic, so in 1929 (that is, even before the Nazis came to power) it was banned in Germany.
M. Zakharova is undoubtedly right when she describes E. Telman as an anti-fascist – he was indeed a consistent opponent of Nazism and fascism ideologies.
However, one cannot ignore the fact that he himself was a fanatical follower of another totalitarian ideology, Stalinist Communism, and openly and consistently supported Stalin’s policies in Germany.
This is also announced by the information boards near the monument, which, contrary to M. Zakharova’s fears, has not yet been dismantled.
