Despite all the financial difficulties, RB Rail, which is responsible for the implementation of the project, and the Ministry of Transport continue to analyze various options for laying the railway, although it is clear that this should have been decided on 7-8 years ago. According to the Ministry of Transport, according to the analysis, the largest passenger flow is expected on the railway section between Riga Center and Riga Airport. It was recommended to choose the construction of the main route on the section from the Lithuanian border to Misa, from the Estonian border to Upesleja, as well as the integration of Riga as the top priority in the implementation of the project. At the same time, it was proposed to continue a detailed study of technical solutions, including for ensuring the movement of goods, on the Upesleja-Riga Central Station-Riga Airport section.
The Ministry of Transport came to the conclusion that it would be advisable to consider connecting the railway line with the Riga Free Port.
In fact, at this stage, in order to reduce the costs of the project of the century, it is recommended to build a single track on all sections and to abandon the circular track through Salaspils at the initial stage.
