Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, confirmed today, Tuesday, that only 4,500 cases of cheating were recorded during this year’s session of the baccalaureate exams, stressing that it is “a limited number compared to the total number of candidates.”
In response to a central question in the House of Advisors regarding “the regular session of the national baccalaureate exam,” Mr. Benmoussa pointed out that this number represents only 1 percent of the number of candidates.
He stressed that the ministry, in implementation of the principles of equal opportunities and objective evaluation of students’ achievements, carried out awareness-raising campaigns among candidates in educational institutions, in coordination with regional and security authorities, adding that it was keen to mobilize partners in the educational system, especially mothers, fathers and guardians of students, given their essential role in educating and sensitizing students to the seriousness of the phenomenon and its legal consequences for candidates, “which made it possible to contain this shameful behavior.”
The Minister praised “the strong involvement of mothers, fathers and guardians of students in supporting their children at this important stage of their academic career,” and the contribution of educational and administrative staff, local and security authorities and all stakeholders in making this national event a success.
On the other hand, Mr. Benmoussa indicated that, in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the dates for some entrance exams to higher institutes or institutions with limited recruitment have been postponed until following July 19, the date of the announcement of the results of the remedial session of the baccalaureate exams.
He stressed that this procedure aims to provide an opportunity for successful students of the remedial session to take these exams, noting that these students will receive, immediately following the announcement of the results, the points obtained in each subject separately in order to include them in the nomination files to enter the aforementioned institutes.
In his response, the Minister touched on the most important developments that characterized the baccalaureate exams this year, including simplifying and digitizing the process of submitting baccalaureate exam topics to the regional academies of education and training; and raising the level of security of writing papers, by adopting electronic secret coding, with the aim of strengthening the processes related to correction and keeping scores, in addition to reducing the period before announcing the results.
The Minister added that digital technology has also been used to produce and manage baccalaureate certificates and grade data for successful candidates, and to include the candidate’s electronic national identification card number on the baccalaureate certificate.
