The Minister of Interior chairs an expanded meeting on preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Today, Thursday, at the headquarters of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, chaired an expanded meeting devoted to studying the progress of preparations for organizing the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

This meeting was held with the participation, in particular, of the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, Governor of Rabat, Mohamed Yaakoubi, as well as various stakeholders concerned with these preparations.

In a speech on the occasion, Mr. Laftit stressed the need for everyone to mobilize to ensure the success of the organization of the 2030 World Cup in Morocco, as well as the sporting events that the Kingdom will host before this global event, most notably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In this regard, he called on the relevant stakeholders to make every effort and mobilize all the necessary financial and human resources to accelerate the pace of preparations, stressing the importance of the success of the next stage, represented by the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will enhance confidence to move forward in the preparation process to host the rest of the sporting events and related events.

In the same context, the Minister stressed the centrality of the city of Rabat as the capital of the Kingdom and because it will host many events before the main event, the 2030 World Cup, stressing the need for the city to be ready starting next year.

For his part, Mr. Lekjaa said that the development path led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI for 25 years in all parts of the Kingdom will make it a destination for organizing exceptional events, whether continental or international, most notably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He highlighted, in a statement to the press following this meeting, the centrality of the city of Rabat for the 2030 World Cup, especially since it will host the African Cup of Nations matches next year, including the matches of the Moroccan national team.

Mr. Lekjaa added that the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat, which will be ready before the end of this year with a capacity of 65,000 spectators in its new form, will be one of the stadiums qualified to host the World Cup semi-final matches, stressing that the goal is for the Kingdom to organize an “exceptional World Cup.”

This meeting was marked by interventions and presentations by various stakeholders involved in organising the 2030 World Cup and the sporting events that will precede it, during which the spotlight was placed on the development and infrastructure projects that aim to enable Moroccan cities, including Rabat, to be ready for this global football event, in accordance with the requirements and standards of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), particularly with regard to infrastructure related to stadiums and training sites, transportation and mobility, accommodation, and sustainable development.

On this occasion, the mechanisms for the integrated management of projects programmed within the framework of these preparations were also presented, in order to enhance the monitoring, control and implementation of projects within the desired deadlines.

This meeting comes two months following an expanded meeting was held in Rabat as part of the intensive preparations for organizing the 2030 World Cup, alongside Spain and Portugal. A similar meeting was held the day before yesterday, Tuesday, in Fez, and another in Casablanca yesterday, Wednesday.
