Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting with members of the Higher Committee of the National Observatory for Drug Harm, formed under the chairmanship of the Minister, to follow up on the implementation of the workflow plan of the observatory.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the implementation of the digital transformation plan for the observatory, which links the authorities entrusted with collecting and analyzing data, issuing periodic reports and updating treatment protocols.
Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, indicated that the minister directed the development of the facilities of the Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, in all governorates of the Republic, to have an attractive feature for patients, in addition to increasing their absorptive capacity, and modernizing medical devices and supplies. .
Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister directed the intensification of mental health programs, which contributes to reaching all citizens in villages, hamlets and governorates of the Republic, conducting a comprehensive survey according to age groups, discovering cases of mental illness, and providing psychological and therapeutic support services, while intensifying monitoring campaigns on health centers. Unlicensed and non-compliant with the health requirements and closed.
He added that the minister was briefed on the reports on occupancy rates in the centers and hospitals of the Mental Health Secretariat, as well as a sample drug analysis statement and a plan for its distribution to governmental and private bodies and institutions, preparatory and secondary schools and universities. Medical services provided in university hospitals, in cooperation with the Supreme Council of University Hospitals.
Abdel Ghaffar said that the minister listened to a detailed explanation regarding the observatory’s activities during the recent period, where he directed the necessity of conducting a monthly evaluation of the observatory’s work, providing the necessary support and overcoming any obstacles facing the work of the observatory’s activities, adding that the minister demanded to provide an interactive map showing the hotbeds of addiction and substance abuse. In all governorates of the republic, to serve the objectives of the observatory and facilitate counting the number of patients, and treating them with the appropriate treatment protocol.
Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that the minister was briefed on the file of training medical teams working in mental health facilities, where he directed the continuous training of doctors, nursing teams and rural pioneers to raise their efficiency, to provide improved health services, while ensuring the protection of data for patients registered within the mental health system.
For her part, Dr. Manen Abdel-Maqsoud, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, explained that the establishment of the National Observatory for Drug Damage had a significant impact on the Egyptian experience with regard to the prevention and treatment of drug addiction, including blood-borne diseases, stressing the continuation of holding meetings. The periodicity between members of the technical secretariat of the observatory’s higher committee and members of the higher committee, to discuss mechanisms for monitoring data.
While Dr. Manal Al-Attar, head of the central administration of the technical secretariat of the National Council for Mental Health, said that successful global models are being reviewed in eliminating the phenomenon of addiction, and they are being adopted within the activities of the National Observatory to Address Addiction Damage, within the framework of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population.
Dr. Ahmed Fathi, Director of the Information Center at the General Secretariat for Mental Health and Addiction Treatment, said that the organizers of the observatory are keen to discuss technical points related to the software solutions of the observatory, in cooperation with representatives of the concerned software companies.
