The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary comments on information regarding the assassination attempt on Viktor Orban because of Ukraine

Szijjarto said: “I am not aware of such an attempt, but what I know is that there are also ongoing attacks on us and on the prime minister, legally, financially and politically, on the government and on the country.”

He pointed out that Brussels is withholding tens of billions of euros owed to Hungary because of Budapest’s position on Ukraine, immigration problems and gender-related propaganda.

He added: “I do not have any information about the assassination attempt.”

Earlier, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Volin said that Belgrade had received information about the preparation of an assassination attempt on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban because of his position on Ukraine.

Sashar Orban has previously indicated that Brussels “is not the president of Hungary” and that the country will continue to defend its own point of view when discussing European decisions.

According to him, Hungary is not one of those countries that answer “yes” to all of Brussels’ demands, so Budapest will not supply Ukraine with weapons or allocate funds, will not allow immigrants to enter the country and introduce propaganda for sexual minorities into Hungarian schools.

In mid-September 2022, the European Commission proposed launching a special conditions mechanism in relation to Hungary to ensure that the EU budget is protected “against violations of the principles of the rule of law in Hungary.”

This means freezing about 7.5 billion euros in European Union funding for Budapest. This mechanism, which aims to protect the community budget from corruption, was activated for the first time in two years of its existence.

Later, the European Commission decided to maintain its original proposal to suspend 65% of Hungary’s payment obligations from certain EU general funds, although Orbán stated that Budapest had met the full list of Commission demands, which relate to anti-corruption measures and increased procurement transparency. public, and strengthening the independence of judicial systems.
