The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the caretaker government, Abdullah Bu Habib, pointed out that “the issue of going to Syria was decided in the Council of Ministers, and it was previously said that America prevented me from going to Syria, but today it is said that America asked me to go.”
In an interview with Al-Jadeed, he added, “We agreed in Syria to establish joint committees to maintain the borders, in addition to a justice committee for the convicts, and also to conduct some mutual visits by ministers and others, and my visit was founding.”
He continued, “There are no conditions for the return of displaced Syrians, and there are procedures from Syria for that, and I sensed cooperation in Damascus.”
He added, “We talked regarding those escaping from military service, and there is a willingness to resolve their matters before they return to Syria, and the United Nations is prepared to register births at the Syrian embassy.”
He said: “I went to Syria with a prior appointment and I considered with the Prime Minister that the refugee issue was the most important, and the Lebanese speech to the Security Council I sent “as if I had said it.”
He pointed out that “I met with the French ambassador this morning, and he did not tell me that a strike on Lebanon was inevitable. America promised that it would put pressure on Israel, and we are negotiating with Hezbollah, and the Israeli Minister of Defense is the one who threatens daily.”
He stressed, “My feeling is that Hezbollah does not want to attack Israel, and Mr. Hassan has not spoken until this moment, but rather the Israeli side is the one making the statement.”
He stressed that “I said the word ‘militia’ instead of resistance, and I am not a resistance fighter, but rather a minister of foreign affairs. Sometimes I make mistakes in some terminology, and I did not receive any comment from Hezbollah. It is a mistake and that is the case.”
